He isn’t just a fishmonger, he is a fishmonger with a great passion for North Sea fish. After all, why would you import fish when our own North Sea is full of the most wonderful, sustainable fish? This trade with its challenges, daily varying circumstances, fish, sea, boats, is just perfect for Mike! It’s Mike’s biggest challenge to work with daily fresh products and proof it’s possible!

2011: Start

As a child, he used to lend a helping hand in the fishing port. When he was 15 years old, he already had his own herring stall in Breskens. After having graduated from nautical college he started working for a wholesale business in sea-fish in Stekene. As he liked this business, he used his day off to assist a local fishmonger. In January 2011 Mike took over his company.

2013: Office rental at Breskens Harbour

In the beginning customers ordered fish, which was sold from a truck. As demand for sorting, filleting and packing fish kept increasing, Mike decided to purchase a shop in the harbour of Breskens in May 2013.
The company continues to grow

Future

Delivering high-quality, daily fresh fish remains our first priority. It requires fast acting. It’s our current vision and we will further work on it in the future. In the next couple of years Fish Wholesale Mike van Houck will further increase its independence. After all, the shorter the lines, the better the overview, the better the overview, the faster the process and the more transparency for customers.
